They argue for less than a livable wage. How mean spirited is that?

No, they (I) argue that the economy simply cannot tolerate paying unskilled workers $18/hour for flipping hamburgers or stocking shelves.

Your argument is totally devoid of common sense. Not all employees are WORTH $37K/year.

You apparently have never been an employer. When you hire a $37K/year employee it doesn't cost you 37K (the true cost of a 37K salary is closer to 50K). You cannot run a business profitably and pay shelf-stockers and cashiers that kind of money.

Geez man, apply a little common sense, if you have it.

JF, > Have you listened to your fellow 'conservatives' on this thread? They argue for less than a livable wage.

Define what a "livable wage" is. Maybe $40K/year? Great, let's raise the minimum wage to $20/hour.

No more poverty. An act of liberal "compassion."

Your self-image is Bambi. Reality is otherwise.

They argue for less than a livable wage. How mean spirited is that?

You say that. The only definition of a liveable wage you've given is $18 an hour ... which according to tejek isn't a whole lot higher than what the median roofer makes. If we could eliminate the illegal alien competition we might be at your definition of liveable wage for roofers.

Cool, argue for poverty, must be great compassionate people.

No one is arguing for poverty, thats your strawman you use to arrogate yourself liberal moral superiority.

However its only reality that there will always be relative poverty. After all, the poor of today live better than the rich of past generations and often times as well as the middle class of many other countries.

Its also reality that not all jobs in our society are gonna be able to pay your definition of a liveable wage. Which isn't so horrible. Many people working are teens, students working part time, retired people supplementing their pension, housewives working part time to supplement the family income. Also some jobs just don't provide enough benefit to justify your idea of a liveable wage. People are still better off than being unemployed.

Its isn't compassionate to refuse to accept economic realities like these. Its just stupid and idealogical.

Why is it liberal cities that declare themselves sanctuary cities for illegals? Why is it (edit: some) liberal politicians that want to provide drivers licenses for illegals?

I don't know. Why is it that some conservatives want to do the same? If one conservative has that position do all?

Very few conservative politicians take such positions. When they do they are courting liberal favor. Almost all liberal politicians - example Obama - take such positions.
