We don't have one around here, so I can't comment.

It rather thoroughly shoots down i-nodes argument, though. Costco does manage to compete with Walmart/Sams with much higher labor costs despite being in the lowest of low margin kind of business.

I'd say they are quite successful for that alone.


Costco employees are incredibly helpful and friendly. Its a concept that was developed here in Seattle......remember Nordstrom's started here as well and good service is one of its key offerings wherever it opens a store. In addition Costco's employees tend to be more intelligent than the people I would find in similar stores in CA.

Seattle businesses also tend to employ both seniors and mentally challenged individuals. Its not unusual to see a senior or someone very slow bagging your groceries. And its not just lip service........they encourage people to move up even if they are slow mentally. There were twins in one store who started as baggers......their IQs are probably around 70-80. The supermarket paid for them to go to the local community college and slowly they have moved up to higher positions in the store. They clearly have limited potentials but what potential they do have is being maxed out. Obviously, this is something the inoys of the world would call communism but I really like that as many people as possible are given a chance to participate in society.
