As Elroy wrote, a better way of getting methane into vehicles than CNG is to react it with heavy gunk which is cracked and hydrogenated using the methane so it turns into good quality light fuels.

That way low value muck gets an increased value and low value methane is increased in value too.

It's all dollars and cents, economics and estimates on future prices for the various things. Committing to using methane and gunk instead of easily distilled traditional crude oils might be a mistake if vast legions of SUVs are parked and people start walking and OPEC starts cutting prices again, just as they did quarter of a century ago, undercutting the alternative fuels industry, largely putting it out of business.
