We on this thread have learned.

However, looking at what passes for the current presidential campaign... It can be argued that "no one is home" in the American public.

And even if some folks do give a damn, and recognize the problems, what are their avenues of recourse? Two parties who collectively got us here have the system locked up.

In general, a sorry state.

Re Bushes idiocy --

Some hold this "starving of the beast" was done by design -- George Soros, for example, suggests the bankruptcy of the government was planned to eliminate the social programs.

Cut taxes.

Have a war.

Spend the Social Security surplus.

Eliminate or curtail the program.

It is certainly being curtailed... looking at the benefits vs the real (non government reported) inflation rate.
