That was a good post -- but I think you're missing the point on Obama & McCain.

McCain is a moderate at his core. Obama is an extremist liberal.

McCain really doesn't NEED to "break from the republican orthodoxy" as he has already done it. Obama, OTOH, is extreme and once elected will take us to the hard left, particularly if unchecked by a liberal Congress (which we'll clearly have).
