There was a time when the consensus of scientists were sure that the sun revolved around the earth. They though that a scientist named Galileo was a nut.

But Galileo had the proof. Whereas the "consensus of scientists" was more like a bunch of religious bigots. Maybe the religious bigots were also joined by a bunch of so-called scientists (who probably issued their statement from an Amway convention!) ;-)
