"High taxes made permanenent hurt the economy over time."

Sure. But define "high taxes". For example, taxes were higher in the 1990s. The economy seemed to do ok. If anything, things improved after the tax hikes.

Now Shorty claims that a couple of percentage points of a tax hike means he shuts his business down. If you have ever run a business, you know how dumb that sounds...

One problem is that the definition of "high taxes" is context dependent. It is going to change, depending on the economy at the time.
