I understand what costco is doing perfectly. You seem confused though about this enlightenment thing.

You think Costco is run by fellow members of the (self) annointed enlightened and Walmart is run by evil benighted meanies. You're wrong on both counts.

And yet people sing the praises of a COST while WMT has to work hard to improve its name.

I don't know that there is a difference between the employees of the two companies

You already said there was a difference in how the employees treat people. But you don't prefer not to think that has anything to do with the employees themselves.

Maybe the COST people are smarter than the ones at WMT. I admit that its hard for me to judge since I come from a city where good service is of paramount importance. When CJ and Chris made positive comments about COST, I thought my impressions of COST might transcend Seattle.

but I do know that they are treated better at COST.

They want to hang on to good people.

Its hard for you to imagine that they care about the people who work for them. That's too bad.

People are not stupid, Brumar. They know when they are treated badly and act accordingly.

Some people are stupider than others. And some people are better employees than others. Its not just a matter of uping everybody's pay and suddenly everybody becomes "enlightened". I've managed people and they're not at all the same just because they're treated the same.

I am talking as a general rule. Yes, there are exceptions but the general rule still applies.
