Got it. Thanks...

'Nowhere in this article does it say who owns the mineral rights. Most of the mineral rights are owned by the Crown and most landowners only have the right to the surface. Without this piece of information, the article (as are most in the G&M) incomplete and biased.

Any homestead grants issued by the government after the late 1800's were for surface rights only. Mineral rights remained the property of the Crown under the federal government. In 1930, Canada transferred ownership of the mineral rights held by the federal Crown since 1870 to Saskatchewan. Approximately 62.4 million acres in the surveyed area are under the jurisdiction of Saskatchewan. Today these provincially held mineral rights are administered by Saskatchewan Energy and Mines. The remaining mineral rights, 17.2 million acres, are held by individuals, companies and corporations.'

BTW, re reading my post I'd like to clear up the first sentence. 'Typical, using the farm security act against this gentleman ' Meant to say typical governments (all of them US included) will find ways to back the big money.

Back to lurking. Thanks.
