David, > The SPR gets us nothing.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate and "environmentalist" Al Gore had Bill Clinton release part of the SPR when gas reached $1.50/gallon back in 2000. The justification was to make sure poor people in the Northeast can afford heating oil for the coming winter.

This "inconvenient truth" was sometimes defended by the liberals on this thread, including Ted.

The SPR gets us nothing.

If we had gas lines it would go a long way to help, but we have none.

He just wants the selfish government to sell off its reserve oil at a high price, then buy it back when prices are low, he will distribute the extra money to all of the Democrat leaders. Or buy off votes from the ignorant masses.

If it were about the money, I could understand it.

This is about pandering, plain and simple. There is no other way to describe it.

The SPR gets us nothing.

At a first look....I was not overly excited about Obama releasing oil from the SPR. However, if done right, it can be a good move........everyone knows that certain gov'ts and companies are hoarding oil right now because of how fast the price of crude was rising. If the US released oil from its SPR, then at a minimum it would reduce the price of gas at least temporarily while at the same time setting up a trade whereby the US sells oil at a higher price and then buys a larger amount back at a lower price. Most people would consider that to be a very good trade.
