Now this same bunch of idiots claim that oil production wouldn't make any difference but releasing a few barrels of oil that we bought and put in our cistern for a rainy day would make a huge difference.

There are only two ways to make a short-term difference - increase supply or reduce demand. If you want to increase supply in the short-term, the only way to do that is to release oil from the reserves.

A better and more practical way would be to conserve, of course, but it looks like it would be political suicide to tell the stupid and greedy Americans that they will have to conserve.
