What war was that? The one that was almost won for ten years?


Vietnam. If you recall we had won a peace treaty with North Vietnam. We had almost beaten them and probably could have won the entire war if we had simply invaded and demanded surrender. I believe one of their Generals said we should have demanded surrender at the peace talks, then bombed some more, we might have gotten surrender at that point. Instead we settled for a peace agreement, which would have been OK, but Congress defunded a large part of VietNam defence, and Ford (the stupid), refused to provide air support to the SVN.

This resulted in over ten million people dying.
