Maybe you're assuming he meant that Atom would take away Sempron sales. I don't think that will be the case (it's Celeron's job to do that), but Atom can still win MSS for Intel over AMD by growing the total size of the market.

It does this by enabling more people to afford low cost laptops (priced lower than any Sempron for a given feature set), and also by lowering the barrier in mature markets for people to afford secondary or tertiary PCs. Increasing the total size of the market works just as well for increasing market share.
