Good question. It is hard to say when there is such an information vacuum. Given the people who are associated with it, I don't think it is a scam. It could be that their VC wants to avoid as much hype as possible to delay others from trying to jump in. Because by not eliminating the suspicion that it might be a scam, that pretty much keeps other VCs from funding a competitor until after they reach production. That fits in with their capability to ramp quickly.

That is a guess based on the assumption they aren't a scam of some sort, though.
