The Enquirer said cancer-stricken Elizabeth confided to a "close friend" that a violent argument around Christmas was the final straw for the troubled marriage. The ex-presidential hopeful last month admitted he fathered videographer Rielle Hunter's child. The Edwardses are separated. A spokeswoman for John Edwards could not be reached. A former top aide to Edwards reacted to the report with disbelief, even amid revelations about his coverups and lies.
