Actually, there is a law about acceleration, it's called "Display of speed." It usually involves squealing tires, but it's up to the officer's discretion.

One of the biggest jackass maneuvers I saw was this weekend while driving with the family. A Nissan Altima was probably doing 90 as traffic was beginning to increase and slow from about 65. He changed lanes rapidly and squeezed between cars in such little space that I was sure he was going to cause a wreck. I've seen a few dumb moves in my time, but that one really caught my attention as it was such a wide difference in speed and done in such a reckless manner in heavy traffic.

Speeding is one thing, being a complete jackass is entirely another. I don't think stupidity is limited to one brand of car.

Yeah, someone else was telling me about that acceleration law. I suspect it's so the cops can easily bust sideshow. My guess is that no one is going to pull me over for going 30->75 in 3 or 4 seconds or whatever. These cars don't squeal tires because of the grip and AWD.

You're right, jackassedness is not reserved for a particular make. I seem to notice it more in BMW drivers because of one very egregious display. Why people would risk their lives and others to get somewhere 10 seconds earlier is beyond me.

Don't you have to pass a "jackass aptitude test" to be licensed to drive in Southern Clownifornia?<G>

Without a doubt the highest concentration of reckless drivers in Merka......
