"Do you see any reason the domestic production curve is going to change no matter how much drilling is done? (Don't tell me, "miracles do happen")"

This was my primary question to you and you evaded it by bringing up shale oil..... We can discuss shale separately.
So how about answering the question....?

I understand there is lots and lots of shale and its location is known..... But there is also lots and lots of coal and it can be argued which would be more easily converted to oil or gas....

"which most of us are simply not willing to do when we can buy gas for cheap ($4-8/gal)."

That's a very selfish attitude.....ie as long as I get mine, eff the rest of you....
I'm thrilled to talking to such a rich man, but the country is extremely excited about $4 gas.... Even more angst has been generated by $5 heating oil.....A crisis looms in the NE and the politicians of both sides are boasting about plans to try and get financial help for those in need....

It doesn't take much to save a few gallons of gas a week...eg combine trips for errands. Truckers can easily save a couple of gallons a day and I think there about a million of them on the road... Exxon-Mobil has a quarter page ad in the Times offering ways to do it...
