loantech, they are talking about *fuel cells*, not those ordinary catalytic converters used in billions of combustion engine-driven cars. Which might mean that Nisshinbo does not see an immediate way to replace platinum/palladium in cat.converters with carbon.
Naah, the platinum/palladium slump is just a piece of the general commodities slump which is caused by hellIdon'tknowmaybeTheHedgeFunds, or the Gang of Four, or Guy Fawkes's friends.

Doubt it, too far in the future and how many current fuel cells would this future product be replacing anyway?

More likely the power problems in S.A and other market forces drove it way high, followed by weak economy and crashing auto catalyst outlook bringing it down.
