Stefan:
Well if you open your eyes and see that the government now was Church then. The church in middle ages was the government and when you really examine history you would only conclude that people who were in the high places used religion as a tool. I guess not much have changed.

KOAN:

I think my eyes are pretty open-lol. The church and the dictators (which is what monarchy's are) used each other. The people were the losers. Bottom line though was that all thinking people (and especialy scientists) were not free to put forth any ideas that were contrary to those of the church.

Heresy was a big deal and the church ruled with an iron fist.

As evidence of this I once wrote a paper comparing the sophistication of the thinking of the ancient Greeks 300 BC to other thinkers for the next 1,500 years or so. There were few to none to compare with any of hundres of great Greeek thinkers. Aristotle, Plato, Socrates, Thrasymacus, Plino, etc and hundreds of other Greek thinkers were more sophisticated thinkers than any I could find for the next 1,500 years or more.

I would say the dark ages were indeed pretty damn dark!-lol.

Stefan:

"How many do you think scientist/professors are working on deconstructing the "global warming" theory? Would you not like to hear as many arguments for and against the validity of the theory to make up your mind? I for sure prefer when there is balance in arguments otherwise we will have middle ages all over again.

KOAN:

Do you also want a balance of thinkers deciding if the world is round or evolution?

Scientists are addressing global warming as it could pose a great threat, but more than that they are trying to understand atmospheric chemistry and climatology per se. Scientists are not trying to prove a point and do not care if there is or is not global warming from a scientific point of view. They just want to know what the truth is. That is what science does! Look for the truth of things. What is real.

Scientists only care what the facts are (scientific method). What is real and how it works. They are not constructing or deconstructing global warming.

Stfan:

P.S. "Dark ages" does not mean no progress was made, the term is overused as is the inquisition. Did you know that more people died in Darfur than during inquisition? What does it say about our enlightened 21st century?

KOAN: The age of enlightenment does not refer to war per se. I agree we are still pretty barbaric. 60 million died in the second world war.

The age of enlightenment refers more to the birth of the scientific method and the freedom to express their ideas free from fear and know reality.

We now mostly live in democracies, most slavery is gone, women have much more freedom (although 99% of the worlds wealth is still controlled by men), and human and civil rights are gaining. Although I am still amazed we had segregation in the south until 1964 and even then integration had to be forced on them at the point of a gun!

Our species is still very barbaric , IMO, and the last few years of our stupid policies (like preventing stem cell research) it seems to me we are going backwards!

cheers,
