I'm not wild about the space program either. I think there are national security aspects - we need to stay ahead of anyone else weaponizing space. So I support those aspects that have some national security benefit.

I think the Mars mission is a waste of money. I think manned missions are a waste. If we ever develop nuclear fusion ie. have some limitless energy supply, develop much more technologically, then we could start exploring space using robots at first.

The rest of the universe isn't going anywhere - no rush to get there. Lets wait till we're further along technologically.

National parks, they don't cost that much. We got the land free or close to free, pay some staff to shepard people around, etc.
