This is embarrassing. I was a Russian linguist and spied on The Soviet Union. I majored in history as an undergrad with a healthy dose of Russian history. I've crossed Russia by train. I wrote a paper on how Georgia, at the heights of its power, was demolished by a Mongol invasion which was followed a couple of years later by a Kwarazmian invasion. Still, I'd never heard of South Ossetia until I read this story. At first, I thought the Russians were attacking Atlanta. Hey, somebody's got to do it. <G>

This is actually kind of scary. All we need in that area is more hostilities.
