>>>>It sounds to me as if the American interest is to broker an Anschluss of the two disputed ethic Russian areas of Georgia to eliminate plausible Russian claims in the remaining portions of the repressive little republic of Georgia.<<<

It is obvious that you know very little about the region between the Caspian Seas and Black Sea, the Dnieper Don and Volga region including Anatolia and what is now Iran Iraq and Syria and as far as Pakistan.

There are scores of so called "nations" remnants of older empires in this region and would suggest to read some history of the region starting with the period of the early Hungars, Volga Bulgars, Kozarim Armenians etc.

All countries east on this huge landmass called Asia are fictitious countries drawn by the powers of 100 to 200 years ago with no resemblance to the ethnic constituency.

As to Russia until 200 years ago it was a much smaller country on the European side of the Asian landmass between the Urals/Ukraine and Byelorussia.

…. and in general it seems that the geopolitical situation is of little interest to you
