5:44 pm I think there is more to this story than you guys are imagining. Why did Edwards endorse Obama when he did, when Obama was beginning to lose primary elections to Hillary Clinton? I think he was blackmailed into doing so, told the affair would remain secret if he endorsed Obama. Something has changed recently, now that Obama is clearly losing to McCain in the polls. Obama’s camp is losing it, in every way possible. I don’t know the sequence of events, but I sense something suspicious about this.

In my opinion, Edwards should have admitted to having the affair when first asked about it, but I also think it is a matter that should be between him and his wife and family. I, too, feel sorry for Elizabeth Edwards.

Mark Caserta: Some of Obama's friendships raise red flags
Aug 09, 2008 @ 12:00 AM
The Herald-Dispatch
Barack Obama's arrogance regarding his past associations and his lack of exposition is telling. Liberals confuse the "guilt by association" argument with "influence affecting principle" because they don't understand the importance of principle in decision making. Barack Obama has made some dubious relationship decisions, and the left would have you turn a deaf ear to questions concerning those who have influenced his life.

One such influence is Tony Rezko.

Antoin "Tony" Rezko is a Chicago-based, Syrian-born restaurant entrepreneur, property developer, political hack and a man with vast influencing skills. His business enterprises and relationship-building expertise have played a role in connecting with a man he determined to have a bright political future.

His political "hacking" brought him to the front door of Barack and Michelle Obama in 1990, where they eagerly set out the welcome mat and brewed fresh tea for a man Hillary Clinton described as Chicago's "slum landlord." The fact that Mr. Rezko faces two criminal trials and dozens of civil lawsuits is minor in the scope of his international connections, and voters should be concerned he has association with a man in contention for the presidency of the United States.

Although Barack Obama initially turned down an employment offer from Rezko in Chicago building inner-city homes, they remained friends, and Rezko became one of his biggest fans and fundraisers. Obama agreed, however, to contract his lawyer skills to Rezko's company and do some work for his state-subsidized apartment rehabilitation projects.

In 2005, after Obama was elected to the U.S. Senate and during the time when Rezko was known to be under criminal investigation, the Obamas and the Rezkos toured real estate together and became neighbors as they purchased adjacent properties in Chicago. Obama admits having lunch with Rezko "once or twice a year" and as couples, with wives Michelle and Rita, dined with the Rezkos "two to four times."

Again, there is no guilt by association, but remember, this is a man vying for the highest office in the land, building a relationship with a man who just went on trial a few weeks ago for money laundering, fraud, aiding bribery and attempted extortion.

Rezko's international connections are concerning as well.

One such connection involves business transactions with Nadhmi Auchi.

Auchi, an Iraqi-born billionare, former Baathist party member and close confidant of Saddam Hussein, was convicted in November 2003 by a French court of illegally accepting more than $120 million in oil commissions. In January, Rezko was taken into custody by U.S. marshals for failing to declare a $3.5 million loan from Auchi, which coincidentally occurred one month prior to purchasing the adjacent property to the Obamas. The government's star witness at his trial testified that Barack Obama and his wife attended a party given by Rezko four years ago in honor of Auchi, who would eventually invest $170 million in prime Chicago properties.

Obama's associations with Rezko and others have been shadowed by the left. As November draws near, you'll see the shadows begin to recede as Republicans shed more light on the subject.

The guy is a communist/Marxist. Just read the Communist...
show comment manifesto and it is the life story of Barak Obama. Just look at his lifelong mentors. He doesnt think we have the right to be who we are and that is the most powerfull nation in the world. He belives we should just step aside for everyone else, no matter who they are or what they believe. He, just like Pelosi will blow any future chance for their kind to be in charge of anything if elected. Might just be a good trade and lesson, if we survive it that is.

WOODRUFF: Your wife, Elizabeth, is probably the most admired and beloved person in this country, she's had enormous sympathy because she's also gone through cancer, how could you have done this?

EDWARDS: Here's what, can I explain to you what happened? First of all it happened during a period after she was in remission from cancer, that's no excuse in any possible way for what happened. This is what happened. It's what happened with me and I think happens unfortunately more often sometimes with other people.… Ego. Self-focus, self-importance. Now, I was slapped down to the ground when my son Wade died in 1996, in April of 1996. But then after that I ran for the senate and I got elected to the Senate and here we go again, it's the same old thing again. Adulation, respect, admiration. Then I went from being a senator, a young senator to being considered for vice president, running for president, being a vice presidential candidate and becoming a national public figure. All of which fed a self-focus, an egotism, a narcissism that leads you to believe that you can do whatever you want. You're invincible. And there will be no consequences. And nothing, nothing could be further from the truth.
