Just get a cheap passively cooled Radeon 3450 like the one in the link below to get roughly the same 3D performance as the 790GX

I put together an Intel E7200 + Asustek 3450 configuration at dabs.com, but it was much more expensive (£70+) than the 780G option I am looking at. To me the benefit per pound spent is not sufficient. I can use the money left over by going with an AMD solution on better things.

For years I've always looked for the best passively cooled graphics card when upgrading. With the AMD 780G/790GX now I think I will be content with integrated graphics.

AMD has delivered a great platform with their latest integrated chipsets. This was welcome and much-needed from a competitive perspective; it makes the AMD option much more attractive in light of the Intel Core 2 onslaught.

Hopefully the 45nm generation of AMD processors will further add to the excellent platform they now have by bridging the performance gap with Core 2.

When do you think AMD 45nm will arrive at the desktop? In time for Christmas? Or is it an 2009 event?
