It appears to me that Abkhazia is a picturesque tourist type region where many of the Russian elite have their dacha's. If they want to be independent, Abkhazia has some powerful interested parties to assist in their struggle. Georgia is a present day "inverse" Cuba and has many problems with it's government.

The domino theory with the Ukraine falling to Russia is an issue. There is still a staunch communist pro Stalin type faction in the Ukraine.

I am not sure Georgia is worth the trouble though, not with Chechnya still causing problems. Do we want to get rid of the muslim terrorists... yes or no? Chechnya is a big factor in that equation.

It's looks to be a chaotic soup of political differences, and if you include Cuba's proximity to the USA, does look like one of those symmetric classic pictures of chaos.

<<Imagine the State of Irish New York and Italian New York and Jewish New York and African American New York and Indian New York and Chinese New York so on - for sure their population is much bigger that Abkhazia>>

... so, what would be so wrong? to paraphrase your framing of mind, it is the principle that is the point, no?

if so, and even if not, then a reminder for monday morning first to-do: buy georgian currency, one of each denomination - soon to be collectors items

stamps would be good as well ;0)

the rebellion is gaining strength, and at some juncture, everybody will become some kind of rebel, especially when the lights get hit in the crowded bar, soon to fight.
