John your opinion on this is pretty bizarre, esp. since you hold two mutually contradictory opinions.

You believe that our economy would essentially be destroyed without imported oil. Avoiding being "essentially destroyed" is clearly a positive.

Its pretty simple, not having the oil would make us worse off than we are now, so buying the oil is a positive.

Or to look at it another way, $X of oil, gets used in ways that produce more than $X of wealth, so again its a clear net positive, so clear that it makes no sense to argue against the point.
