European antitrust regulators raided grain traders they suspect of running a cartel to fix prices.

The European Commission never names companies it is investigating until the probe is complete. It has the power to levy fines of up to 10 percent of sales, which can run into hundreds of millions of euros or dollars.

Officials made surprise visits to the offices of traders and distributors of cereals and other agricultural products on suspicion they broke cartel rules, the commission said.
