During the 80's the DOE experimented with over 3000 strains of algae and poured a fair chunk of change into researching algae to biodeisel, including how to trigger lipid production, what is the most economic way of growing algae, etc. Basic conclusion is that it's expensive, would require higher prices of deisel to pull off economically (and their conclusions were that open ponds of scum were more cost effective than building greenhouses with closed systems). I'm sure you could find some documents related to this project.

What you're looking for in this company is some hard data on costs and output. Biologically its completely true that algae produce lipids (oils), that they rapidly grow, etc., but that doesn't mean that they are an economic alternative.
