The Japanese and Koreans are more genetically similar than any two other groups in Asia, and the Koreans not very genetically related to the Han at all. Japan was colonized by tribes of the Korean peninsula. Just don't tell the Japanese that! So perhaps Korea was one of the 56 tribes of China at one time in history, per propaganda, but only by occupation and conquest.
