Russia feels threatened. Regroups using the remnants of the USSR. Stops Europe's encircling of the Russia by stretching muscles.

Europe is faced with:
no more captive markets to be brought in its sphere of influence.

no more cheap manpower to use for spreading economic activities Eastwards
