Perhaps.

But please remember the Gulf of Tonkin in which a flimsy incident was used as a justification for something much larger.

It is entirely possible that a local situation has given Putin's Mafiothugocracy a golden strategic opportunity.

We'll see.

Mostly an European problem, IMO.

it is quite likely that putin directed the folks in s.ossetia to edge on the georgians, and the georgians fell into the bear trap

even so, it takes two to fight, and three or four or five to rumble

the great game would have re-started no matter who was in charge of what, as long as there are economic interest involved

few folks would fight over ... for example ... let me see ... well, afghanistan, and if they did, they should soon enough realize and come to an 'oops' moment
