There aren't many places with offshore oil without something onshore.

Not many exceptions to that rule.

1) Cantarell in Mexico, about 70+ miles from shore and no oil on the nearby shore. It was discovered by a fisherman who report oil on the water's surface.

2) The BZP finds off the coast of Peru - only a little NG on the coast.

3) Offshore Nova Scotia - Of course this is one small field

4) Offshore Viet Nam.

5) Offshore Brazil.

6) North Sea Oil. Not much if anything on the Scottish side, some gas in the Netherlands, a long way away.

So maybe 2 good exceptions - North Sea and Cantarell.

Also note that 2 to 5 are recent, post 1950 finds.

Okay, at least they are talking about energy.
