"But Russia's move here is clearly imperialistic and the US needs to stand up and oppose it. "

And how do you propose we go about doing that?

think hungary, 56, czechoslovakia 67. There is little we can do. I cant imagine what the georgians were smoking not to realize they live near a real bear. If you lived near a fierce bear, you would adapt. They didnt and what worries me most is who was supplying the georgians with the drugs they were smoking.
US was reckless in pushing nato up to the russian border. I said this all along. And the euros were feckless in not giving the georgians some cover by letting them in after they had agreed to do it. Reckless and Feckless vs the Mother Bear, right near her den. 2000+ dead for what.
One other thing. Anyone believe Putins warning about Kosovo now? Whats really the difference between Kosovo getting its independence and South Ossetia deciding to be part of russia, not georgia.
Oh well this is a no-brainer for those of us who studied foreign policy and balance of power politics back in the day. Russians play the game well and brutally. We dont. Truth is you know what the proper response would be for the US. Put out a hit on Chavez in VZ....or Mugabwe in Zimbawe or something in cuba or give the israelis the go-ahead and give them logistical support. I am not advocating any of these but thats the way the game was typically played and the russians know we dont have the stones or the capablitities to do this.

This is a huge mistake on the part of the Bush administration IMO to just stand idly by and let it happen.

LMAO. That's the funniest comment I've heard in quite a while. Hey genius, why do you think Bush is "standing idly by and letting it happen"? You have three guesses and the last two don't count.
