You seem to have overlooked the fact, that while South East Ossetia and Abshassia proclaimed their independency and elected their own leaders years ago, Russia never acknowledged their independence. For good reason that is. Putin for sure was smarter, more subtle than Hitler, who didn't issue German passports to the Sudeten Deutsche prior to "bringing them back ins Reich" 1938. You do know that Putin distributed Russian passports ad libitum to the citizens of Georgia in South East Ossetia from 2006, don't you? Next Russia invaded Georgia territory to "protect their Russian citizens" there. Hitler's first move comes to ones mind.
