Just like the serbs in kosovo, the georgians will have to get over the fact that part of their historical homeland is almost completely devoid of georgians in both contested autonomous areas. Of course Bears are immune from this as in Chechnya. Serbs will get along fine without Kosovo and i suspect Georgians need their minority monkey off their back as well. Russians always behave badly but they warned us what Kosovo would mean and they acted upon it. US needs to help make the peace and on our side that means getting the Georgians to understand that life for them will be better sans the breakaway provinces. And i say this knowing that georgians were ethnically cleansed from both regions, and often violently. If i tell the pals to get real about facts on the ground i need to be consistent here as well. We may not like what the big guy or in this case the little guy with the big friend does but we have to respect it as long as the big guy doesnt cross a line like hitler in the sudetenland. The transition to self rule or even russian annexation needs to be slowly and carefully done and georgia needs to be assured by the bear that they will be left alone and that include possible Nato and EU membership.
