The speculators where not any more pure than the next guy, but they where not the prime cause of the great depression. Sure I guess in a sense they can be blamed for the bubble in stock prices, but bubbles pop all the time without resulting in anything like the great depression. this is capitalism yu know Once the depression actually started, the main thing that kept it going for so long was moves away from the free market, and towards government imposing control.
