Ephud:

Further information reveals that the XO budget is 5W for everything. The Geode LX 700 used (400MHz) with the Geode 5536 chipset uses about 2W of that. 1W is for the color display screen and 1W for the wireless mesh network. All else including audio, keyboard, trackpad, memory, camera, flash, SD/MMC slot and 3E/1I USB ports uses the last 1W.

Given that Atom can't be used as it uses way too much power, 8W with chipset.

Pete

PS, the XO (C2) has 128MB 200MHz DDR, 512MB flash storage and 512KB ROM BIOS. The screen is 1200x900x6 (64 level greyscale) monochrome passive or 692x520x18 (256K) color. It sold 300K by 4/08.

Yes Pete, I forgot the OLPC used Geode. My bad. However Atom will offer far more performance and Intel can shrink it just like AMD could with Geode. Face it, Intel competed and AMD lost again. Competition, that's what it's all about.

That could break Intel's hold once and for all. And that scares you and your fellow intellabees shitless.

Yes Pete, I'm truly terrified.

At $100 million a quarter, it would pay off the debt all by itself while showing the world that AMD has enough unit share to be considered a duopoly. That could break Intel's hold once and for all. And that scares you and your fellow intellabees shitless.

Dirk,Hector and the AMD management apparently have no plans to implement your scheme. Are they super dumb, or have they been bribed by Intel as well ?

Re: Intel tried to compete with Classmate, but it failed.

Sorry, wrong again, Pete.

The *interest* on the debt runs at about $100M a quarter these days, iirc.
