My HDL went up hugely with a dietary change- and my LDL and Triglycerides went way way down. It's amazing how fast it happened.

The HDL standard keeps changing. In 2001 it was >34. My 35 that year was ok. The next year the standard changed to >or=40. In 2006 the standard was >60. By 2007 it changed again to >39. Again my 40 was in the good range.

Here's a cut and paste from the American Heart Association.

HDL (good) Cholesterol
About one-fourth to one-third of blood cholesterol is carried by high-density lipoprotein (HDL). HDL cholesterol is known as “good” cholesterol, because high levels of HDL seem to protect against heart attack. Low levels of HDL (less than 40 mg/dL) also increase the risk of heart disease. Medical experts think that HDL tends to carry cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver, where it's passed from the body. Some experts believe that HDL removes excess cholesterol from arterial plaque, slowing its buildup.

Re:You HDL is low and you will obviously collapse at any moment.

If I collapse it won't be from those cholesterol numbers. They are all within range and besides those are last years numbers. I have tried more this year and expect them to be better. I just hope I can raise my HDL number before the AHA raises their number again.:)
