That may be, but the range will not be enough and recharging time too long no matter the improvement.

I think their [nissans] first US release is to be 200km with a recharge time of 5-8 hrs using Lithium Ion. I'm sure replacement cost will be insane to begin with.

I don't think battery power REPLACES petroleum in the near term, don't get me wrong. But I do think these vehicles will appeal to a lot of commuters. If they're going to be getting 200km to begin with, it won't be long until they're doing twice that.
