If they are less bad than other foods- like meat and grain- that would make them "good" since we can't eat air.

I think they are "good". It's a glass half full or empty problem. When you look at the huge population studies, who lives the longest and the healthiest lives? the vegetarians and the near vegetarians. It's not as if any food will ever be 100% without negatives. And that's why I think you need to eat a varied diet.

I eat what makes my body feel good- not what makes my taste buds feel good, but what makes me feel like my body is running well. I don't feel very well when I eat a lot of meat, and grains make me sleepy- I feel at my best with meat as a garnish, and lots of veggies, nuts, beans and fruit, and dressings of vinegar and olive oil, and lots of herbs. I love herbs. I often eat them as I take care of my garden. I guess I am the herbivore every plant is afraid of.
