His intent is not to flatten anyone but to keep sure of boundaries as we would not allow even 'defensive' weapons near our borders. That is sensible. They can barely manage their own country and are losing population at an amazing rate yearly. Why this drumbeat that they want to take over other countries again as the "USSR" I don't get except that some live in the days when a Georgian Maniac ruled Russia. Stalin the Georgian. Why is it okay to any American that Georgia should squash its tiny neighbor S.O.? Georgia has historically tried to do and done so at times. They just aren't big enough to be a 'big bully on the block'. We do have to face the fact that Russia has the oil and the natural gas. They have a lake that contains 25% of the fresh water in the world. they have a lot. Lousy engineers, sadly. But lots of things that matter. Why shouldn't they protect their borders, stand up for a tiny S.O. that is bullied by Georgia (specifically by a whacky pres there), make sure that they get the best prices for their resources, etc? They can be kept in line but not by false means such as saying that Georgia can kill the indiginous people of S.O. and make that land their own just because they want to. There is no 'moral authority' in turning our backs on the people attacked just because they like russians better than georgians. why should they like georgians when the georgians kill them?

oh, and I have no idea what Putin 'dreams of'. I haven't met him in dreams.
