I'm not sure. I need to check that. They tried to boot him awhile back and that is when he started 'cracking down'. The main oppostion person has asylum in France right now, his life and that of his family was threatened. I'll check into it. I love the idea of Georgia as free and thriving. They are a vibrant people and love freedom. And have a very rich history and great artistic history. I fear he is feeling a tad 'dispotish' from what I have read. So the next election will tell if he really believes in a democracy where power is passed along, and also that the unpopular are voted out without a second term (tho I need to check the details of their constitution). I wouldn't do a Bush and look in Putin's eyes and 'see a good soul'. He is Russian. And my gf is Russian. She doesn't like him nor try to give illusions of the way of Russian speech. It is not simply another language but another way of communicating. As the Chinese communicate differently from either us or the Russians. But... I don't see evil grand designs in him. Do I like the authoritarian stuff he's done there? Very much not. I'm reading Natasha's Dance right now. It is a facinating book to not only learn the history but the 'soul' of Russia. I wouldn't underestimate the conquering desire, tho that was a later stage in Russia. For centuries they were always the ones being conquered. But to come to a common place... it is not just what does 'is' mean... but what does 'is' represent regardless of the language it is said in. or something like that.
