So why not press further until Putin buckles? indeed Russian Army army does not have staying power for a real conflict with a real army. (it was also obvious form the few TV clips I saw)

Some of my Russian friends told me that this was also a showdown for internal purposes to prove that Putin is still the boss and Russia's president - there are waring faction and some connected to Putin camp where arrested or kicked out of the money ring
