" Americans driving their own passenger vehicles is not the sole source of gasoline usage in the world or even in the US," We're not talking about the world....only US, and what else in the US uses gasoline other than auto's....oh yeah, your little motor boat and lawn mower... " Americans decreased their driving far less than the several hundred percent increase in gasoline." They didn't get serious about conservation until they began to bleed...... You suggesting conservation won't drive prices down???
