Zeta, one cannot "hope" where nuclear war is a possibility. We should be steering as clear as possible.

Everyone has huge blind spots and insanity, real insanity, like psychosis, not neurosis, is very common. We foregt that all the time.

My own mother went insane and I was married to a person who engaged in magical thinking. I have closely monitored "insane thinking' my whole life. And am careful in my own case. Some would say I failed-lol.

I think, in fact, one could argue the neo cons are basically insane, or at least out of touch with reality. Guys like Frank Gaffney, Bolton, cheney, and maybe bush himself?

If you have not seen the movie 13 days with Kevin Kostner, go rent it. it was based on the actual trasncripts.

If kennedy had not over ruled the generals they would have bombed the Russians and I believe we would have had a nuclear war.

Do yo think bush or cheney will over rule the generals?

Gates may be the one hope as he does seem sane and I think he will resign rather than take super dangerous steps, although this missle thing with Poland was sure stupid.

What is worse I am sure they did it on purpose which is even more nuts. They have a saying in psychology: "never back a paranoid person into a corner"!

The human species is not rational!

Zeta, that is exactly what this is. Bush testosterone and Putin/Russian pride. It's sick that we have leaders that engage in this kind of thing.

I hate to be callous about this, because people's lives are at stake, but for every year that Bush has been in power, it has delayed my retirement by a year. We need to get back to the policies of peace and prosperity, instead of war and deficits, so that I can retire, damnit!

I'm coming to view this as testosterone male-chauvanist Russian/Noecon flexing of muscles to see what happens, go as far as the Wests weakness vis a vis Iraq/ME lets them.....I've not had access to TV for several days so I have no idea what the punditry is saying...............

I think its that and letting the world know that the Soviet Union, I mean Russia is back. He's flexing his newly built up muscles while telling a weakened Bush to stick it where the sun don't shine.

In the meantime, the ceasefire that the Russians have agreed to sign looks to be empty of any specificity when it comes withdrawal timelines. In fact, it doesn't look like the Russians are going anywhere soon. And the president of GA is livid. Yesterday, he was berating the US and the US even as Condi stood by his side staring into the distance. It was not one of her better moments.
