from innovative body solutions:

innovativebodysolutions.com

"The high sugar content in our diet and in the foods that quickly convert to sugar is directly related to disease. Large doses of sugar provoke an insulin response that leads to numerous health problems and acute energy shortages over time."

"Essential fats such as Omega 3 & E are vital to mental and physical health. Pure, all natural Omega 3 essential fatty acids"

those two statements on the innovative body solutions website is an excellent introduction to the foundational principles of the zone diet.

the zone diet for dummies, as it were.

i recommend going with the "real thing" and avoid the imitations like innovative body solutions for something as important as diet. after all, they just read dr. sears' books and then produce a diet based upon their limited understanding of the writings of phd lipid researcher previously employed by boston university and mit. heck, you can read the same book these guys are reading and cut out the middle man altogether.

i can see why they wouldn't sponsor anyone who mentioned a company that produced competitive products like dr. sears and his zone diet, though. especially when they are little more than a poor imitation of the real thing.

they also mention anti-oxidants as super substances. the latest research shows mixed results that aren't all positive.

"Antioxidants more likely to raise cancer risk"

reuters.com

"An article published in the Archives of Internal Medicine (Volume 167 pp 1610-1618) last week was about more than 8,000 high- risk women (they had already had a stroke, heart attack, or several risk factors) who were followed for more than nine years and took Vitamin E, Vitamin C, or beta- carotene either singularly or in combination. The outcome was that these vitamins had no benefits in preventing a heart attack."

then again, perhaps the reason chemicals in fruits and veggies can't come close to explaining the observed superior health of those who eat lots of fruits and veggies is because the most important factor may be what the high fruit and veggie intake group isn't eating - dense, high glycemic load, insulin stimulating carbs.

if you remove those kinds of carbs, you go a long way to getting an 83% reduction in the risk of diabetes.

(note the absence of complex carbs from this version of the "mediterranean diet").
