My ideas:

- Cooperation. When you're generous to people, they're less likely to make you angry, because they have more to lose. This also applies to Russians. Right now, they may lose Sochi as a place for Olympic Games in 2014.

- Lower energy prices may make some influential Russians demand more growth in other sectors.

- The pride of Russians may make them want to be able to do the same things as well as others. Transparency makes this happen. A good example is when journalists report, how Medvedev's information about his army is not correct. This transparency reduces Medvedev's ability to act, unless he improves the way the army works. In similar ways, China made a lot of anti-pollution efforts before the Olympic Games etc.

- Automated translation tools seem to improve communication between Russians and others. This will undermine the lack of freedom of press (http://surl.dk/4l7/ surl.dk surl.dk ), although very slowly. The translation quality from English to Russian is not very good, yet.
