nice propaganda piece and i dont disagree with much of it. As i have said, much like kosovo, the serbs and georgians should be happy to be freed of these folks and get on with building a democratic georgia. When kosovo independence was declared i said that the international powers should have allowed the serbian piece of kosovo to be annexed by serbia. This would have been fair, and the russians and serbs wouldnt have been nearly as upset. What i dont agree with and neither should you is the Russians disregard for international borders. This poses dangers for states like Ukraine and the Baltic republics not to mention Poland. Russia needs to play by 21st century rules to settle 19th century issues as difficult as they might be. Russians win a phyrric victory here. They showed their power over a nation of 4mm but not much else. I think they also showed a general amateurism in their military with many limitation in extending their power against a real country. Also they have hurt their international standing. ONce they go back to GA, we should be conciliatory and begin the next stage of the US/Russian relationship. We will have a new president and i would like to think that Putin might turn over some of this to Medvedid. Doubtful perhaps, but Putin being son of KGB knows the dark side all to well. I dont know if he is as personally ambitious as he is a Russian nationalist. Bush and Putin played their roles and much of it was positive and now its time for Medvidid and dare i say obama. McCain made me a little nervous as he tried to be Reagan in a time when the USSR doesnt exist. I think i will vote for Obama now. Obama is skilled in FP but he is a cold war and vietnam relic. Russians arent as good as bush dreamed them to be but neither are they as bad as mccain and GA PM think they are. They are fumblers and bumblers much like we are but they are regional and we are global. Time for a change i suspect.
