just sent out sos to lunch group, and i quote:

hello all, just back to hk and am enthusiastic for lunch tomorrow.

as tasked, i checked with china great wall coin, the official distributor of panda gold, as well as boc hq just now. bad news, in short, no gold, at any price.

the news from the front line is not good, for (i) debt deflation is doing an armed probe of our soft left flank, (ii) fiat inflation is doing a thrust up our soggy middle, and (iii) cold-hot-on-average-warm wars are doing an end run to choke off our path of retreat, and yet we cannot get reinforcement from gold camp, even as the price drops, true supply is nowhere to be seen, meaning our nav gets a drubbing, and we are prevented from averaging down, unless we are willing to accept paper substitute.

if so, there could come a day that gold hits 6000/oz but we would be precluded from selling same on officially sanctioned market. what a set up :0)

so, let's do lunch and digest the information.

chugs, j

just in on e-mail roundtable

Dear all, this is from the Western Indian state of Gujarat :

this state accounts for a very large share of Gold imports into India as traditionally a large number of jewellery manufacturers are based there and also because the city of Surat (also in Gujarat state) has the lion's share of the diamond trading/cutting/polishing business.

As of the past few days, there has been an unusual demand for 'biscuits' (Gold bars as they are traditionally called in India) but the cache is that delivery will be only after a week or so...the price is confirmed but delivery is not given on the spot !

100gms bars or above are all the more difficult..

I have got similar reports from Bombay and Calcutta as well but my reports about Gujarat are more confirmed/first-hand ! Anyone who wants to check this can do so....

Happy Panda hunting !
