McCain's cross was drawn in sand; the Russian writer's in dirt.

I'm sorry, but if that is the only similarity, that story has occurred many, many times throughout history.

Why do you see a hero when I don't? Why are you so gullible? Is it convenience....he speaks what you want to hear so you make him into a hero?

"The Russian Writer"? Now, that's funny coming from such a "well-read" fellow as you LOL.

I was not sure of the spelling and I was in too much of a hurry to look it up. You caught me......what a clever fella you are.

And usually it is just that. A story. What snopes calls a "glurge". A little story, often of faith, that is told to illustrate a point. Sort of like the Parables.

McCain's story has all the earmarks of a glurge. Why does this story suddenly pop up? AFAIK, he never mentioned it before he started campaigning for president. He has never written about it.

Given that he has quoted Solzhenitsyn before, it is clear he is familiar with his work. And who hasn't read "The Gulag Archipelago"?
